Simply
put, mNetwork serves as a sort of virtual sandbox for Mike Menefee. The
M Network began as a small experiment more than 10 years ago in basic
TCP/IP networking and server administration, a small educational project
designed to do little more than share files between two computers. The
name comes from a simple prompt in the setup for Windows NT 3.51: "What
is your domain name?". MNETWORK seemed a good choice at the time,
and the name stuck.
It now encompasses a fully functional Internet domain (including email,
web, and IRC servers, among others), a network of about 20 devices of
various types (computers, PDAs, robots, etc.), and even a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
This site will continue to track the evolution of mNetwork and other projects
from Mike Menefee. |
